"People Power Pearl" integrates smart tiles to harness kinetic energy on a busy pedestrian mall.
This project aimed to take an already successful experience and use the best of 21st century technology to build upon it. We were tasked to use “web of things” concepts to create an integrated, “smart” experience that would engage people on the Pearl Street Mall. Our solution, "People Power Pearl," proposes integrating smart tiles along common pathways throughout the pedestrian mall. The energy captured can help power low voltage features, such as lighting, wifi, and kiosks which will help improve safety and reduce city energy costs.
